RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (RE)
What We Do:
Preschool: Sunday morning Faith Formation meets every Sunday, September through April, during the 10:00am Mass. This program enriches the 4- and 5-year-old preschool child’s understanding of God through bible stories, art, song, and spontaneous prayer, etc. Registration is required. Please call the Faith Formation office to register. We begin taking registration in Spring of the preceding school year
Grades Kindergarten - 5: Faith Formation is held on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm, September until early May. All grades gather in the cafeteria located in the parish center at 5:30 for community prayer and activities. Faith coaches (catechists) then take individual grades to classrooms for grade-specific instruction. This program provides the faith formation needs for children of St. John‘s who attend public schools or who are home schooled. The text series, We Believe, provides age appropriate lessons using one general theme per grade level. The lesson theme plus Scripture, Tradition, Prayer, and Social Justice are interwoven in each lesson, encouraging the children to live, as well as know, their Catholic faith. We invite parents to our prayer services held throughout the year and to our family gatherings.
The Edge (Middle School, grades 6, 7, & 8,) Faith Formation is held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Teen Room located in the lower level of the Parish Center. It is designed to meet the catechetical, educational, spiritual, emotional and social needs of young adolescents. Middle school students are removed from behind classroom desks and brought into a large group environment in the Teen Room. In the large groups, the young people will gather for activities, teachings and prayer. In small groups, they break open the teachings and build solid, Christ-centered relationships that allow them to comfortably explore their Catholic faith and make it relevant to their everyday lives. This helps build safe relationships during some of the most formative years of a middle school student's life.
