ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Anointing of the Sick. Offered to the parish community twice a year. The priest administers this sacrament. It is done by anointing with blessed oil on the forehead and hands. This sacrament is given to those who are seriously and/or chronically ill who may be in danger of death. The frail elderly may receive this sacrament because in cases of old age, almost any illness can take on a serious nature. A person may receive the sacrament prior to a serious operation. If a sick person who received this anointing recovers his/her health, he/she can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again. (See Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sections 1513-15.) (A person with a continuing chronic illness may receive this sacrament more than once.) To request this Sacrament, call the Care Minister at (503) 654-5449.
