RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS)
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process by which Catholics invite post-high school adults to join our community in a journey of faith. Those who are ready will receive the sacraments of initiation during the Easter Saturday Vigil.
The RCIA catechumen and candidates celebrate the Rite of Sending this week at the 10am Mass. This rite concludes their period of the catechumenate and they now enter the next phase of their journey. This phase is known as the time of Purification and Enlightenment and last until the reception of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. In the rite of sending the parish celebrates this transistion and sends them with a blessing to the bishop for the Rite of Election. We will be at the Cathedral on Saturday February 20th with Bishop Steiner. The Rite of Election is a memorable celebration for our elect and candidates as well as their godparents and sponsors. For the first time they experience the Church not only on the parish level but also on the diocesan leve. In the rite of election the bishop invites the godparents to witness to the catechumens readiness and asks the catechumens themselves to declare their assent and then we present the Bood of the Elect in which they have inscribed their names.
