FUNDRAISING POLICY
"What we have in the way of possessions, resources, and abilities have been entrusted to us by God. We are called to act as stewards of God’s kingdom."
Genesis 1:26
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church receives the majority of its operating funds through fund-raising and gifts. As a parish with 1,600 households, the potential for successful fund-raising at St. John the Baptist is large. The parish, the school, and our auxiliary organizations associated with the campus are all in need of funds for operations, as well as funds for special projects. Therefore, all groups who wish to fund-raise on parish property must seek the Pastor‘s approval for their events and projects.
The Pastor reserves the right to refuse fund-raising requests at his own discretion.
The potential for parish and school families to be inundated with requests for money has been a problem historically. Therefore, fund-raising requests may be limited. This prevents competition for charitable dollars within the school and parish community. In addition, the Pastor may turn down requests that he feels will harm the image of the Church, or are not appropriate to the mission of the Church. The pastor considers financial accountability and transparency to be vital to all fund-raising on campus. All organizations are expected to adhere to the fund-raising guidelines and required fund-raising procedures applicable by law. Organizations unable or unwilling to adhere to these rules can expect to have their fund-raising requests refused.
All organizations seeking to have a fund-raising event should submit a Fund-raising Application and budget to the development director. The development director will evaluate and respond to the organization’s request for approval by providing advice to the Pastor regarding fund-raising requests. If approved, the event will be entered on the parish’s fund-raising calendar. It is preferred that organizations submit requests by May 31st for the next fiscal year. This allows for the best opportunity to schedule the event.
