PASTOR'S LETTER

September 27, 2011

SJB IS MY FAMILY

Dear brothers and sisters,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (2cor.1:2)

It gives me immense joy to be part of the SJB family that serves my physical, emotional, academic and spiritual needs each day. The opportunity to worship in this holy place would not be possible had not our family members in the last few decades made sacrifices to support and to carry on this mission. We are part of a great family and it is our turn now to be actively engaged in our parish family.

This summer our parish leadership team met several times to discuss the financial challenges we've been facing these past four years due to the decline in our parish offertory income even while offering the essential ministries to our parish families. Recently at the coffee and conversation a concerned SJB family member asked, “What will happen if our financial resources cannot support these basic ministries at SJB?” The leadership team answered: “We, the SJB family, will meet our needs.” Truth is, the answer describes the true identity and a faith-based character of our SJB family.

Together we will meet our financial challenges more convincingly than ever before. Your commitment to support our SJB family by engaging in the ministries, praying for our parish, and making a financial pledge in these most difficult times will help us carry forward the mission of Christ and the work that began 150 years ago in Milwaukie.

If you have never filled out a parish commitment card before, we are asking for your help to support SJB’s needs. If you are one of the members who have been supporting us these last many years, God bless your faithful stewardship. If you are able to give a little more, it will be gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Please take time to read the 2011-12 annual report and download your commitment card. As you prayerfully discern your commitment, please know that your pledge is very important so SJB can offer spiritual nurturing and nourishment in the coming days, weeks, months and years. I want you to also stop by the parish office and pick up a copy of the supplemental detailed report on the various ministries, volunteer support and the assistance given by various parish-based organizations at SJB. As you read through the ministry report, please prayerfully heed the call for your participation in our parish ministries.

I sincerely appreciate your deep love and commitment to your SJB family.

Many blessings,

Rev. Maxy D’Costa
Pastor
