PASTOR'S LETTER
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
You and I play a very significant role in our commitment to the parish offertory program every year. On behalf of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and especially the many people of God we assist in their spiritual quest and sacraments every day. I extend my sincere gratitude for your continued support. This year our commitment Sunday is scheduled for November 14-15, 2009, with the theme “Seeds of Faith.”
Even in these tough economic times our God provides for our needs. You are aware of how quickly our parish successfully completed a mini-capital campaign. It was amazing to see how our parish community came together to meet the financial need and complete the long pending and urgent repair projects. The whole activity strengthened our faith and gave our parish faith community a strong sense of unity and accomplishment.
To meet our goal for the 2009 parish offertory program, your personal prayers and wholehearted participation are very important. It will set the stage for other parishioners to be involved and directly influence the objective of 100% parish-wide participation. Every ministry we provide and every faith journey we assist depends on your strong commitment and partnership. This collaborative effort helps us continue our ministries according to the needs of our parish faith community.
With this in mind, I exhort each one of you and your family to reflect on a simple question “How does my faith help me to sincerely trust God and give without fear?” and then prayerfully discern your sincere commitment to God. I know the times are challenging and it will be a real test to our faith and trust in God to make our commitment. I also know that there are parish members who will not be able to increase their contributions. At the same time I do believe that if we trust God and be faithful stewards, our faith will come alive and we will see better days soon.
This year, the Finance Council and I humbly ask each family to consider a 15% increase in your contributions to the parish offertory. This increase will help us assist those that are unable to make a commitment at this time and meet the demands of the budget for this fiscal year. Please find the enclosed annual report for further details and if you have any questions our Finance Council members will be happy to answer them for you after all the masses on the commitment weekend Sunday.
Thank you for your support of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church that started as a mission in 1850 and continues to serve all the people of God that come to worship God as a vibrant faith community. As an engaged church community, under the Lord’s guidance and through the intercession of St. John the Baptist, we can successfully sow "Seeds of Faith."
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Maxy D'Costa
Pastor
